A Berry Good Week of Sourdough Recipes

Hey Reader,

June may be wrapping up, but the sunshine (and baking) is just getting started. We’re visiting family on the West Coast and soaking up some quality time—plus checking off a few more bakes from our June Baking Checklist while we’re here.

After a chaotic travel day (hello, unexpected hotel layover), I’m relieved my sourdough starter survived the trip in my checked luggage! I’ll be baking again this weekend - my mom has requested I make her favorite sourdough loaf.

Otherwise, check out this week's content roundup to inspire your summer baking as we soak up the final weekend in June:

What I'm Baking this Weekend

One of our favorite summer traditions when visiting family in the summer is visiting U-Pick berry farms and bringing home baskets of fresh, seasonal berries. I’m hoping to turn those berries into a batch of homemade jam—or one of these sourdough discard recipes. They’re berry delicious!

Sourdough Berry Pie: This is the easiest summer dessert ever! Use whatever fresh (or frozen) berries on hand and pair your berry filling with a tender sourdough pie crust. Yum!

Sourdough Berry Donut Fritters: These fritters are perfect for using up extra sourdough discard AND extra freshly picked berries. Plus, they make for a sweet summer breakfast treat on our slow vacation mornings.

Summer is heating up, but your kitchen doesn't have to! You can definitely bake sourdough in the summer, but I try to avoid turning on the oven during the hottest part of the day. If I do bake, it’s early morning or later in the evening when it won’t heat up the whole house. But you don’t have to turn on the oven to enjoy sourdough. Have you tried baking a crusty loaf right on the grill? Or making a single-serve sourdough cookie in a mug? Whether it’s the grill, stovetop, or even the...
